The LPGA goes international once again, this time visiting our neighbors to the north. Canada is a growing country in the women’s golf world, with new players joining the tour every season. This year, the event for the first time is being played at the Earl Grey Golf Club in Calgary for the first time. See below who is most likely to win the 2024 CPKC Women’s Open:
No. 5 – Megan Khang: This is a hard week to make predictions for since the course is new for all players, and thus a little unpredictable. I will go with the good vibes for this pick, as Megan Khang finally won her first LPGA Tour event in Canada last season. Khang hasn’t had the loudest season, but she generally has been in decent form week-to-week.
No. 4 – Lexi Thompson: Lexi has had such a big comeback season, propelling her up the Rolex Rankings, where she currently sits at No. 37. Thompson hasn’t missed a cut since May and has finished in the top 20 in every event since that time. Thompson is in strong form, and with another pretty average field, she should be a solid bet to be in contention once again.
No. 3 – Brooke Henderson: Gotta go with the hometown hero with the crowd firmly behind her. Henderson won this event in 2018, and has been terrific this season despite not having a win yet. She currently sits at No. 8 in the CME Standings with six top-10 finishes already. The crowd should give Henderson a significant boost to be on the leaderboard again.
No. 2 – Ally Ewing: What does Ally Ewing need to do to get a win in 2024? May 16 was the last time Ewing finished outside of the top 10 in an LPGA Tour event. The last time she missed a cut was over a year ago. Ewing sits at No. 5 in the CME Standings, and has found a way to work her way into every event. I don’t see any way Ewing isn’t in contention once again.
No. 1 – Lauren Coughlin: It just feels right doesn’t it? 2024 has been a huge breakout for Coughlin, with two top-five finishes in majors, and an additional two top-10s in events. She is set to likely make her first Solheim Cup appearance and has shown remarkable consistency through most of her stroke-play starts. Like Megan Khang in 2023, it feels fitting to see a player get that breakthrough victory here.
