Two-time major champion Stacy Lewis is proving she has more left in the tank in her birthplace of Toledo, Ohio, shooting a -4 67 in the opening round of the Dana Open.
The 39-year-old Solheim Cup captain sits in a tie for third, one back of co-leaders Paula Reto and Natthakritta Vongtaveelap at the current moment, with still some of the afternoon round left to be played.
Lewis finished strong at Highland Meadows, with birdies on four of her last five holes to get to -5. In total Lewis made seven birdies with three bogeys.
Around the greens Lewis really shined, with only 24 total putts thanks to strong chipping and putting. Lewis hit just nine fairways and 10 greens on the second round.
Lewis hasn’t just struggled as of late, she’s been flat out bad. In 11 stroke play tournaments in 2024, Lewis has missed nine cuts with her best finish being a T28. The last time Lewis posted a top-10 in an individual event was March of 2023.
This would be a huge result for Lewis if she could capture her first victory since the 2020 Scottish Open, which was the 13th of her career. While she does have more pressing issues on her plate, like the Solheim Cup captaincy, a win in her birthplace would likely feel very good.
