The grouping of Atthaya Thitikul, Nelly Korda and Ayaka Furue had a pretty good time over the last two days. Despite getting the tougher time draw, they are all in the top 10 heading into the weekend.
No. 1 Korda is currently in a tie for third behind Thitkul and So Mi Lee, sitting at -6 for the event. She is tied with Ariya Jutanugarn, Gabi Ruffels and Mao Saigo. She had five birdies with one bogey, and her ball-striking numbers were back to what we all expect out of Korda. She hit 12 fairways and 15 greens in round two, up four from yesterday in both categories.
Thitikul had a flawless day, taking a two-stroke lead at -9 after playing a beautiful back nine. The world No. 14 birdied five of her last seven holes to race out to the top spot. Through two rounds, Thitikul has had only 47 total putts.
Currently there are 14 players within four strokes of the lead.
Going out in the morning, Thitikul’s Thai countrywoman Pajaree Anannarukarn shot seven under to not just get her inside the cut line, but also in contention. She is at -5 for the tournament. Four players from Thailand are at that number, with Thitikul, Anannarukarn and both Jutanugarn sisters.
