Lauren Coughlin , the 18-hole leader at the Aramco Championship, had a fantastic second round in difficult conditions at Shadow Creek, shooting -3 69 to get to -8 overall. At the time of publishing, she holds the solo lead.
Coughlin started well on a day where the course was torturing the strongest non-major field in years. The cutline has ballooned up to +7. Coughlin made her first birdie on the par five fourth hole before dropping her first stroke of the day on the sixth hole.
The two-time LPGA Tour champion made her move around the turn, where she birdied holes seven, eight, 10 and 12. She hit some extremely long putts on that stretch, which was really a theme of the day for her.
Coughlin did bogey two holes in a row on 14 and 15, but made a great putt for birdie on 16 before making a terrific par on the brutally difficult 17th.
When Coughlin putts this well, she becomes nearly unstoppable. She is one of the best ball strikers in the world but when her putter gets hot, it us unstoppable.
Nelly Korda was a bit of a victim of the tough conditions, making four bogeys and a double in her second round. Still, she made four birdies to salvage something and sits six strokes back at -2.
