The best amateurs in the world are taking on the iconic Augusta National today at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, but what prominent players didn’t make the cut?
Rianne Malixi – Malixi, a 19-year-old from the Philippines, had one of the best amateur seasons in recent memory in 2024, winning both the U.S. Girls’ Junior and the U.S. Women’s Amateur, two of the biggest amateur events in the United States. She currently plays at Duke and is No. 13 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
Jasmine Koo – Jasmine Koo is a sophomore at USC currently and the No. 18 ranked player in the WAGR. She is perhaps most remembered for her low-amateur performance at the 2024 Chevron Championship, where she was in some contention over the weekend. This is the first time in three attempts that she missed the cut at the ANWA.
Bailey Shoemaker – Shoemaker was the victim of the thrilling 2024 victory from Lottie Woad, but unfortunately is probably more known now for her slow play controversy that has dominated much of the discussion of this event. Like Koo, Shoemaker plays at USC and has dealt with some major injury issues recently.
Megha Ganne – Arguably the most well known player in the field, the Stanford senior is in commercials with Nelly Korda, Rickie Fowler and Ernie Els and has put together a decorated amateur career. She is currently ranked No. 7 in the WAGR and is remembered for being in contention at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Kelly Xu – Any player from Stanford, the unquestioned power in women’s college golf, missing the cut is notable. Xu has had a consistent senior season that has her ranked No. 17 in the WAGR. Xu finished in the top 20 in the ANWA last year.
