WTGL has added seven players to its roster, and they are impressive additions. Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson, Charley Hull, Jeeno Thitikul, Lexi Thompson, Rose Zhang and Lottie Woad will all be teeing it up in the new league at the end of the year. What players should be next on WTGL’s wishlist?
No. 5. – Maria Fassi – Despite limited LPGA Tour success, Maria Fassi is still very popular with women’s golf fans and would probably thrive in this league. Fassi is a flashy player both with her style of play and personality both on and off the course, and seemingly would be a perfect fit. The former amateur superstar isn’t playing on the LPGA Tour on a weekly basis, so this would be a unique opportunity to showcase her.
No. 4 – The Iwai Twins – Akie and Chisato seem like the two young Japanese players who would be superstar choices for the WTGL. Though there are some language barriers, that can be worked on in time for the league to start up. The Iwai twins are huge personalities and have massive potential moving forward. It would be a real opportunity for the WTGL to get in on the ground floor with two new stars.
No. 3 – Angel Yin – Get Angel Yin mic’d up and good things will happen. Yin is arguably the biggest personality on the LPGA Tour (maybe tied with No. 2 on this list) and has the results to back it up with two wins and three Solheim Cup appearances. Yin is so skilled in every facet and is a needed force here to get the events a bit more lively. In that environment, the crowd would be extremely reactive to her.
No. 2 – Megan Khang – When WTGL got announced, this was the first name I thought of as a potential star. Not only is Khang a great teammate, as evidenced by her Solheim Cup appearances, nobody has more fun playing golf on any Tour than Khang. She already has a partnership with the Boston TGL team, so I would imagine her announcement here is inevitable.
No. 1 – Nelly Korda – Obviously, this is the big fish that WTGL is going for. While it seems obvious she will be here, TGL still doesn’t have her PGA Tour equivalent, Scottie Scheffler, in the league. Obviously for many reasons that isn’t a 1-to-1 comparison, but Korda still hasn’t been announced yet. WTGL might be waiting to announce her on her own, but it is a glaring reality that the most popular player in the game is not yet official.
