The No. 1 team in the country was eliminated Sunday at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge, as Wake Forest lost to No. 6 South Carolina 4-1.
While Winston Salem native, freshman Macy Pate, did get one gold number on the board defeating fellow freshman Vairana Heck 2&1, the rest was pure domination by the Gamecocks. The final two matches didn’t even reach 17.
Sophomore Mia Lussand gave the most dominant performance winning 5&4, while junior Louise Rydqvist defeated Wake Forest star Rachel Kuehn 2&1.
South Carolina has been dominant all week, going 10-5 total so far with wins over Arizona, the defending champion Oregon Ducks and the most recent national champions, Wake Forest.
On the other side of the bracket, Texas had a late charge after losing the first two matches to Florida, but rallied to win the final three. This included Bohyun Park’s huge victory over Sophie Stevens 6&4.
The championship match between No. 6 South Carolina and No. 8 Texas is today in Palos Verdes, Calif.
