The Solheim Cup teams are all set with the finalization of the American team Monday. Over the next two weeks leading into the competition, we will rank all 24 players in the Solheim Cup for both teams, continuing today with Jennifer Kupcho
Easily the hardest player in this entire competition to rank is Jennifer Kupcho. If someone put her outside the top 20, it could be defended. If someone put her top 10, it could just as easily be reasonable.
On one hand, Kupcho is arguably the second most accomplished player in the entire competition. She has four LPGA Tour wins including a major plus was an elite amateur player, the champion of the first Augusta National Women’s Amateur. She has the resumé.
She also has the current form. Outside of Nelly Korda, nobody has been better on this American team on a consistent basis. While she hasn’t gotten herself in winning position often, she has eight top-20 finishes in 17 starts. Not many players on either team can say that. She also has good recent form, with a T11 finish in Canada despite a bad final round.
All those factors are absolutely positives for the 29-year-old from Colorado, the negative? Her Solheim Cup record. If the form is solid, one bad Solheim Cup performance is pretty easy to forget. Two in a row though? It looks like a pattern.
Kupcho actually had a solid start to her Solheim Cup career, forming a strong duo with Lizette Salas and going 2-1-1. It has been a nightmare since then though. In her last two appearances, Kupcho has gone 1-4-1 with her lone win coming over Linn Grant in singles, who was in even worse form.
Kupcho is a solid, well-rounded player, who could really boost the United States with a return to the form she showed in 2021.
