The scores were low on Saturday at Liberty National, leading to a duel of two of the LPGA’s best in the final round at the Mizuho Americas Open.
The two multiple time winners on tour this season will be in the final group in New York on Sunday. Hannah Green, who has won two events this season, and Nelly Korda who already has a startling five wins in 2024.
It is hard to ask for much more as an LPGA Tour fan, seeing two of the best duel it out at one of the best venues on the schedule. Korda is ranked No. 1, while Green is ranked No. 9. Of Korda’s tournaments this year, she hasn’t been in such good position heading into the final round, with a two-stroke lead.
Korda played maybe her best round of the season Saturday, a round that could have easily been two or three strokes lower. Korda hit 11 fairways and 14 greens in the third round, but putted the best she has this week with only 26. Playing in the toughest conditions of the day, Korda had seven birdies and no bogeys.
Hannah Green got out early in the more favorable conditions, shooting a -9 63. Green hit all 18 greens on the day and had only 27 putts. A recipe for success for anyone playing golf.
Ayake Furue and Gabi Ruffels are three strokes back of Korda and tied for third at -10. Furue and Ruffels are two of the best players on tour without a win this season. Furue sits at No. 6 in the CME Standings, while Ruffels as a rookie is No. 12 in the CME.
