Two former U.S. Women’s Open champions, Yuka Saso and Minjee Lee, have grabbed a share of the lead at -1.
It was doubtful if anyone would be under par heading into the weekend after a tough first round that saw more players shooting in the 80s than in the 60s. Lee and Saso, comfortable with difficult conditions, rose to the task.
Lee and Saso came into the day as the two biggest stars on tour on the leaderboard, and maintained their position, a phrase that will sound very good to every player this week.
Lee’s -1 round included three birdies and two bogeys. A lot of pars on the scorecard, which at Lancaster Country Club, is going to be a big success. She hit 11 fairways and 12 greens, while having just 29 putts as opposed to 32 yesterday.
Saso, the first round solo leader, shot a solid +1 round, a score that if repeatable, will put her in contention to win as the weekend goes on. She had three bogeys with two birdies on the round.
The two share the lead with a host of players on their front nines currently, Andrea Lee, Megan Schofill, Sophia Popov and Wichanee Meechai.
