Nelly Korda, who shot -4 in the first round and was within two of the lead, hasn’t lost much ground after an up-and-down day.
Korda got off to a tough start in the first group out with a bogey on the opening hole. She had a birdie on five and a pair of fantastic up-and-downs on eight and nine to go par-birdie to finish the front nine.
On the back, Korda stayed mostly in neutral, continuing to miss fairways (now at 11/28 on the week) but is continuing to be saved by strong approach play. She hit a beauty of a shot into 17 that led to a birdie.
On 18, Korda hit her second shot into the water to the left of the green, putting her in danger of letting a decent round dip to disappointing. Korda showed off the short game flash one more time though, hitting a beautiful chip that found the bottom of the cup for a par.
The good news for Korda is that much of Friday at the top played tougher, leaving her in firm contention on a busy leaderboard filled with stars. At the time of publishing, she is just three shots back.
Bad weather is on the horizon this weekend, and Korda is one of the better bad weather players on the LPGA Tour, so that could play to her advantage on Saturday and Sunday.
