One week of not winning was enough for world No. 1 Nelly Korda, as she won her sixth tournament of the 2024 LPGA season, the 14th of her still young career.
Korda came into this round with a two-stroke advantage, something she strangely hasn’t become accustomed to, not having a solo third round lead in any of her wins this season. She gave it up quickly though, with three bogeys in her first seven holes. She rallied on the back nine.
It didn’t come without some fortunate bounces though, as she was skirting the edges of bunkers throughout the nine. It is pretty undeniable, she didn’t have her best stuff today, but her ability to grind out a win was impressive for a player we are so used to playing flawless golf.
Korda’s counting stats ended up solid, hitting 10 fairways and 12 greens with 29 putts. Compared to her struggles last weekend with the flat stick, that portion of her game looked solid.
Hannah Green, who herself has two wins this season, finished in second with significant distance to third. Green came into 18 tied with Korda, but hit two poor shots to get out of position.
This is Korda’s sixth win in eight events this season. The level of dominance she has had this season is hard to overstate. Despite a tough weekend in the last tournament that snapped her five-win streak, she came back strong. It is hard to see this level ending anytime soon.
