LPGA Tour rookie Mimi Rhodes shot an incredible 63 in the third round of the Ford Championship, played just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. She is in contention to win her first event on the Tour.
Rhodes came into the day well outside of contention, nine strokes back at -7 for the tournament. She wasted no time at getting back into the mix.
Rhodes eagled the second hole, then proceeded to birdie holes 5, 6, 7 and 8. After a bogey on 11, she got back into her grove, with birdies on 12 and 13, finishing with birdies on 17 and 18.
Rhodes is an impressive player to watch up close. She hits the ball long and putts very well. She hit 14 greens and had only 23 putts. Her drives had the crowd talking, with everyone in the gallery being impressed with how far it travels off her club.
At the time of publishing, Rhodes is seven back of Hyo Joo Kim, but she looks good to get a top-five finish this week, which helps in both the season-long race for the CME Tour and also the European Solheim Cup standings.
