The interesting storylines are wide open going into Sunday, as Jiyai Shin and Alison Lee are in the lead heading into Sunday at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship.
These storylines were created by Ruoning Yin’s performance on hole 18 Saturday. The defending champion and world No. 4 was leading going into the final hole on Saturday. She went on to have a triple bogey on the hole.
Jiyai Shin had a tremendous -8 63 on Saturday, a round that saw her have 8 birdies and 0 bogeys. Shin is a 2-time major champion and former world No. 1 who hasn’t won on the LPGA Tour since 2013. She gave up LPGA membership in 2014 to be closer to family. In 2004 her mother died in a car accident, which has been the leading influence for her professional golfing career. The past year has been her first return to the LPGA Tour.
Alison Lee is also a fascinating story. The first ever winner of the Annika Award, at UCLA the women’s golf equivalent to the Heisman Trophy, and a Solheim Cup member at just 21-years-old, she’s still looking for her first LPGA victory. It could come in the city that she played in at the collegiate level.
Ruoning Yin, Nelly Korda and Leona Maguire are stars in contention. But the storylines leading into Sunday are fascinating.
