Last week I had the pleasure of golfing at Gearhart Golf Links, the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi River, perched right along the northern Oregon coast. It was my very first visit to the Pacific Northwest, and wow—it was breathtaking. Coming from the heat of the desert, I was more than ready for the cooler temperatures and a sky full of clouds. I know most people crave sunshine on vacation, but believe me, this midwest girl at heart has always missed the four seasons, and that moody coastal vibe felt like home.

We booked morning tee times, and stepping onto the first tee with that crisp, salty air in my lungs was pure joy. Instead of battling the sun and triple digits, I found myself layering up. Add to that, it’s been a while since I had to bundle up for golf, and I noticed right away how far the technology and style have come. I never felt restricted or uncomfortable. There are so many great options for functional base layers paired with a light sweater or vest.
It’s not just about staying warm on the course—it’s also about being smart when you pack. I always make it a point to bring my golf essentials in a way that lets me mix and match outfits, so my luggage never feels overloaded but I still feel stylish and ready to play. A functional base layer with a cute pair of golf pants and a fun hat, and you’re set.

Some of my favorite golf pants are the EAGLE 28 Inch Performance Stretch Ankle Pants by Acegolfs. They come in a variety of colors and patterns and have just the right amount of stretch. And for you taller gals, Acegolf makes golf pants up to 38 inches. (Check out their selection at acegolfs.com.) I chose the black and white gingham ankle pant with my black IBKUL quarter zip and the PXG Women’s Color Block Vest. It was the perfect choice for the day along with a comfy pair of G/Fore G.112 Kiltie Golf Shoes in white and black. It was the right shoe for this very walkable links style course.

Gearhart’s layout itself was a treat: rugged dunes, tall grasses swaying, and the sound of waves in the distance. The course had that wild, untamed beauty you just don’t get in the desert. It reminded me why I love traveling for golf—every course has its own personality, and this one was full of coastal charm.
Travel + Fashion Takeaway: Golf trips are always better when you pack smart, layer well, and let your style shine against the backdrop of a new course. Gearhart reminded me that the right outfit not only keeps you comfortable, it also helps you feel confident and ready to soak up every swing, every view, and every adventure.
