After one round at the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba, four players, Brianna Do, Chisato Iwai, Jenny Shin and Bianca Pagdanganan, are tied for the lead at -4.
Iwai continued her strong play as one of the key players in this fantastic rookie class. While she maybe wasn’t consistent off the tee, hitting only nine fairways, she was excellent on approach, converting it into 14 greens in regulation.
Do, a 35-year-old from the United States, has been playing on the Epson Tour in 2025, where her form hasn’t been strong. Yet the change of scenery may have been a big help in round one as she hit 12 fairways and 14 greens, with three birdies an eagle and only one bogey. A potential win would be career-changing for Do.
Jenny Shin, who often played well in first rounds in 2024, was back at it here, putting together one of the crazier back nines you will ever see. On the back side, Shin made five birdies and a double for a -3 score, finishing birdie, birdie, par, double, birdie, birdie.
Finally, Pagdanganan used her terrific power once again to hit it long and put herself into birdie positions. She made five on the day and managed only one dropped shot. Pagdanganan hit 16 greens on her way to a share of the first round lead.
The second round of the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba picks up again tomorrow morning on Golf Channel.
