After the morning wave of the second round at The Standard Portland Classic, Thailand’s Arpichaya Yubol holds a one-stroke lead at -12.
Yubol had a great start to her round after a fantastic, bogey-free 66 on Thursday. She made birdie on the opening hole before adding three in a row on the scoring stretch of holes five through seven.
On the back nine, Yubol added three more birdies, before a bogey on the par 4 18th. Once again, Yubol shot a -6 66.
For the event, Yubol’s numbers are predictably striking. She has missed just two greens and has only 47 putts, a combination between strong play with the flat stick and fantastic chipping.
Yubol got off to a strong start at this same event last year with a first-round 66, but shot 72 in the second round. For the week she had a 21st place finish.
The 24-year-old from Thailand is trying to continue building momentum after a solid European swing. After a breakout 2024 where she had four top-10 finishes, she had just one last season. She has two so far in 2026, both of which were runner-up finishes at ShopRite and Mayakoba. Both of those events, like The Portland Classic, had slightly lower strengths of field.
Behind Yubol is another player looking for her first LPGA Tour win, Sophia Schubert.
Schubert was one of the best players on the Epson Tour last season, but has struggled in 2026, making just four cuts. Now, sitting at -11 and in solo second for the moment, that number will go up to five.
The afternoon wave is still on the course, but the odds look likely at the moment that we could have another first-time winner at this event.
