Anna Nordqvist, the three-time major champion and nine-time winner on the LPGA Tour has announced that she is retiring after this week’s FM Championship at 39-years-old.
Nordqvist, from Sweden, turned professional and entered the LPGA Tour in 2008 after two seasons at Arizona State. She won her first major championship in her fifth LPGA Tour start in 2009 at what is now the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. She also won the season-ending event on the LPGA Tour that same year and finished second to Jiyai Shin for Rookie of the Year.
She didn’t win her next major until 2017, when she won the controversial, rain-shortened Evian Championship in a playoff against Brittany Altomare. After four years between wins, she got her final major at the AIG Women’s Open at Carnoustie in 2021.
Nordqvist also was a strong player on the LET, winning two partners events alongside Sophie Gustafson. She won what is now the Dutch Ladies Open for what was her last professional victory in 2022.
Nordqvist, of course, is most known for her time in the Solheim Cup, where she has played on nine European teams dating back to 2009 and played in 35 total matches. During her time in the Solheim Cup, she built up a 17-15-3 overall record and was a part of five teams that earned the Cup. She was also a vice captain in 2024.
It is fitting then that her final professional event will be played two weeks before she makes her debut as the Solheim Cup Captain.
