After two rounds of the Amundi Evian Championship, the fourth major of the LPGA Tour season, world No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul and Charley Hull are tied at -6 and in position to make a run over the weekend.
Thitikul didn’t have the best start to her tournament Thursday, shooting a +1 72, but bounced back in a huge way Friday with a -7 score. Thitikul made an early birdie on 10, her first hole of the day, but didn’t make her second until the par 5 15th and followed it up with another on the par 5 18.
On her second nine, she started once again with a birdie on the first hole, but then waited until the par 5 seventh, which she eagled. Finally, she made birdie on her closing hole finish with a 64.
Evian is one of Thitikul’s favorite courses, and she showed why once again on Friday. She hit 12/13 fairways, 14/18 greens and had 28 putts. She is still looking for her first major championship.
Also looking for her first major is Charley Hull, who didn’t have quite as Great of a day Friday, but the results for the first two rounds are the same nevertheless.
Hull came into the day at -5 and shot a solid -1 round that included three birdies and two bogeys. Hull hit just seven fairways and had an alarming 35 putts, but she hit 17 greens so it didn’t impact her score too negatively.
Both Hull and Thitikul, two of the biggest stars without a major, are in contention position-wise, but it all depends on what Aki Iwai does over the next couple of days, as her lead looks like it could be commanding.
