In the opening round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic, held in Atlantic City, Israel’s Laetitia Beck opened with a career-low 63 to capture the early lead.
Beck started strong with birdies on three of her first five holes before ending the nine with additional birdies on holes eight and nine.
Once she moved over to the back, the birdies slowed but she kept her scorecard completely clean. Beck finished strong with birdies on 15, 16 and 18, to get to eight in total without a single bogey.
Beck hit just 9/14 fairways, but had strong approach play hitting 15/18 greens and was spectacular on and around the greens. Beck had just 25 putts for the round, fueled both by close approaches and flawless putting.
Close behind is Nicole Broch Estrup, looking for her first win on the LPGA Tour across a nine-year career. Estrup sits just one stroke back at -7.
As far as big names go, Celine Boutier is probably the most notable name on the leaderboard. The major champion sits three strokes back at -5 as she puts the finishing touches on her first round. Ashleigh Buhai and Hye-Jin Choi are each one stroke back of Boutier at -4.
Getting off to a good start this week is essential, as this is only a three-round event. The second round kicks off on Golf Channel tomorrow at 3:30 eastern time.
