It is time for the LPGA Tour to return to Atlantic City for the ShopRite LPGA Classic for three days of action. Jennifer Kupcho is the defending champion with a decent field considering the spot on the schedule. Here are some odds to target, and some odds to be skeptical about:
Odds to Target:
- Jennifer Kupcho – +1,200 – Kupcho has the fourth best odds to win, but considering her win here last season, along with some strong recent form, I like her chances. There aren’t a lot of players in the field with more winning experience than Kupcho, the No. 24 ranked player in the world. She has four straight top-15 finishes on the LPGA Tour and it feels like she is trending toward a win.
- Linn Grant – +2,500 – While Grant is inconsistent, she is one of the most purely talented players in the world, and especially this particular field. After a tough stretch of tournaments in the spring, Grant’s form has been looking solid recently and she fits the profile of players who have had success on this course in the past few years.
- Chiara Tamburlini – +7,000 – I see this week as a really great chance for one of the new European stars on the LPGA Tour, Tamburlini, Nastasia Nadaud and Mimi Rhodes, to get their first LPGA Tour win. Tamburlini hasn’t shown a ton stateside with a couple missed cuts in a row, but the odds are favorable enough to take a chance on her.
Odds to be Skeptical About:
- Charley Hull – +1,100 – Charley Hull is without much of a doubt the biggest star playing this week, but that doesn’t mean she is the smart money. Hull’s last few weeks haven’t been the strongest after a promising start to the year and there is some better value elsewhere.
- Erika Hara – +1,600 – Though Hara is on a strong run as of late, with three consecutive top-20 finishes, it still feels very early for her to have the sixth best odds to win even with a field that may be a bit below average. This feels like oddsmakers trying to get ahead on the rookie.
- Jodi Ewart Shadoff – +4,500 – Ewart Shadoff has had a fun resurgence as of late with some form coming back after a tough couple years. Still, she is 16th in odds to win this week, which I don’t really see. At these odds, nothing is too bad, but again, there is better value elsewhere.
