Stanford’s modern women’s golf dynasty continued Wednesday in Carlsbad, California, as the Cardinal won its fourth national championship with a 4-1 win over USC.
Stanford got some quick starts from stars Meja Örtengren and Megha Ganne. Örtengren was 3up through six over USC star Jasmine Koo, while Ganne won five of the first six holes against Bailey Shoemaker.
Shoemaker did claw her way back into the match because of a trio of bogeys by Ganne, but the Stanford senior stabalized on the back nine with two birdies that resulted in a 4&3 victory.
Örtengren never let Koo into the match, with her lone hole loss coming on the second of the day. She never showed any daylight and cruised to a 6&5 win.
Catherine Park, the third member of USC’s big three also fell to Paula Martín Sampedro 3&2 thanks to a bogey-free round from the highest ranked Cardinal golfer. Senior Kelly Xu also got a point with a 1up victory over Elise Lee.
While the stars for USC didn’t necessarily perform well, sophomore Kylie Chong put the lone crimson point on the board with a 1up victory over No. 3 ranked amateur Andrea Revuelta.
This was the fourth national title for Stanford, all coming since 2015. This is the Cardinal’s third win since 2020. Anne Walker has coached the Cardinal through all of those titles.
