Three rounds are in the books at the 2026 Chevron Championship, here are some of the takeaways heading into the final round:
- Nelly Korda remains in firm control of this event, matching the 54-hole record for biggest lead in Chevron Championship history, five strokes ahead of Patty Tavatanakit. Korda has converted five of her six multi-stroke 54-hole leads on the LPGA Tour.
- Korda started off on fire with a couple fantastic birdies on the first two holes. She got through the front nine at -3, but had some sloppy play on the two par 5s on the front, hitting a poor shot into the bunker on the third hole and then a bad missed putt on eight. Her last birdie of the day was on the sixth hole. She wasn’t particularly bad Saturday, shooting a -2 round, but she finally looked human, especially with her putter.
- Despite that cooled putter, she still has a five-stroke lead, only cut into by one stroke. She didn’t look good Saturday and it still didn’t particularly matter. It will take a disaster for Korda to lose this event.
- Patty Tavatanakit had a rock-solid -3 round, but she needs to dial in her irons. For the week she is only 31/54 in greens in regulation, it is an incredible testament to her putting that she has made only one bogey. Still, to close this gap, she needs to give herself some more looks for birdie.
- Pauline Roussin-Bouchard has a long way to go to get into real contention, sitting at -10, but this is a big weekend for her potential Solheim Cup prospects. A top-five in a major championship would be massive.
- Ruoning Yin is the name I am looking at the closest to make a real run, she looked back at her best Saturday with 11 fairways hit and 15 greens. She made six birdies and no bogeys. If she can repeat that Sunday, she will put a lot of pressure on Korda.
- It seems like this tournament is over, especially because Korda probably needs to shoot even par to have a good chance at a win, but crazy things can happen, as was proven last week in Los Angeles.
