Yani Tseng, the five-time major champion, incredibly made her first cut on the LPGA Tour this week at the AIG Women’s Open with a +1 score over the opening two rounds.
Tseng shot a solid even par first round with 14 greens hit in regulation, two birdies and two bogeys. Friday was a bit more of a struggle, especially on the toug finishing stretch. Tseng went +1 on her front nine and added two early bogeys on the back to get under par and well within the cut line. She did make two bogeys down the stretch though, including on the relatively easy par 5 18.
Tseng has dealt with injuries over the last handful of years, missing the entirety of 2022 and 2023. She started to comeback in 2024, playing 11 times with little success. She has played seven times so far in 2025, nearly making the cut in the U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills.
A big storyline with Tseng is her move to left handed putter despite being naturally right handed. Tseng is currently ranked No. 1055 in the Rolex Rankings. Her last made cut was at the 2018 Swinging Skirts LPGA, which also so happened to be the first career win of current world No. 1 Nelly Korda.
Tseng won 15 times on the LPGA Tour between 2008 and 2012 which included five major championships. Tseng struggled in the third round, shooting +6. Still, this week should be seen as an unqualified success for the LPGA Tour great.
