There’s a lot of new faces on the European Solheim Cup team. Over half the team has made, or is making, its debut since 2023. Many of the veterans, like Anna Nordqvist, Georgia Hall and Emily Pedersen, are no longer playing. One constant though, is Charley Hull, and that doesn’t figure to change any time soon.
Hull set the record for the youngest player in Solheim Cup history in 2013, a record that still stands. In 2015, she became the second youngest player in European Solheim Cup history behind herself, which also still stands. Hull is ninth in most matches ever played for Europe, and she will likely move a few spots up that list this year.
Experience is something that can’t be taught. It isn’t just her having played 27 matches total though, she wins too. This year, she needs 2.5 points to move into the top five in European Solheim Cup history in points won. For her Solheim Cup career, she is 15-9-3. In 2024, she was without a doubt the MVP for Europe, going 3-2 with a dominant Sunday victory over Nelly Korda.
Hull can play any format. She is 6-3-1 in both fourball and foursome and is 3-3-1 in singles, often getting one of America’s strongest players. She almost definitely will play all five sessions for the third time and is the unquestioned top player for Europe.
Hull’s results this year? Fairly pedestrian for her standards. She has 10 made cuts in 14 starts and four top-10 finishes. She had a chance at the U.S. Women’s Open to win her first major and had top-20 finishes in three other majors. She comes in with good form, having finished top 20 in her last two events. She hits the ball a mile and has a streaky putter that can get super hot.
Hull is easy to pair with about anyone, as evidenced for playing alongside 11 different players over her time playing for Europe. Count on Nordqvist to use her with some rookies, in particular Lottie Woad, who should be a great match with Hull.
There’s really no holes to poke in Charley Hull, she’s the absolute favorite to be the top point scorer for Europe and has finished with a losing record just once in seven appearances. She brings versatility, easy to pair ability and pure skill to a young team without a lot of winning experience.
