Match 1 – EUR Maja Stark and Linn Grant vs USA Megan Khang and Lauren Coughlin
We just keep getting stacked matchups out first in each session. The four players in this match are a combined 6-0-1 and have had some dominant wins. Grant and Stark are so dominant though in foursomes, we haven’t quite seen them in fourball. While the pure chemistry and comfortability (not to mention confidence) is so high with these two, Khang and Coughlin have been buzzsaws in the Solheim Cup. Coughlin has never lost a Solheim Cup match and Khang hasn’t lost in her last nine matches.
Prediction: USA wins 2&1
Match 2 – EUR Lottie Woad and Charley Hull vs USA Yealimi Noh and Andrea Lee
It is so hard to see Woad and Hull exit their four rounds played together without a win, but everything about these last two days has been demoralizing. They have gotten crushed in both foursomes matches and almost lost to Yealimi Noh by herself yesterday. Noh has reinforcements now with Andrea Lee, who is generally good in fourball but looked really bad this morning. I think this is on paper the most interesting match of the session, and it’ll go the distance.
Prediction: Tie
Match 3 – EUR Leona Maguire and Nastasia Nadaud vs USA Rose Zhang and Auston Kim
Interesting decision to break up Mimi Rhodes and Nastasia Nadaud for Anna Nordqvist, who have looked great in both formats so far, going 2-0. Maguire has also looked fantastic though, which makes this still a solid pairing on paper. Auston Kim is trying desperately to get something going but hasn’t yet been able to. She enters her third match with her third different partner, and I think Zhang makes more sense than Lee or Allisen Corpuz. I think Zhang finds a way to make enough shots to get a win.
Prediction: USA 1UP
Match 4 – EUR Carlota Ciganda and Celine Boutier vs USA Jennifer Kupcho and Lindy Duncan
Celine Boutier had a tough start to the Solheim Cup, but wasn’t done any favors with her partnership alongside Nanna Koerstz Madsen. Now, she gets the leader of the European team, who should have a ton of momentum and confidence after the electric finish last night. They face an American team who has to have the lowest confidence of almost any potential pairing. Kupcho has gone 0-2 and struggled for her last three Solheim Cups and Duncan looked uncomfortable throughout her entire first round.
Prediction: Europe 5&4
