United States Solheim Cup star Sarah Schmelzel has not yet played on the LPGA Tour this season, she explained why Wednesday in a post to Instagram.
Schmelzel revealed that five months ago she underwent endometriosis excision surgery. She wrote on Instagram:
“I have struggled with debilitating pain, heavy periods, brain fog, nervous system and gastrointestinal dysfunction. I went through countless ultrasounds, MRIs, birth control pills, an IUD, bloodwork, diets and lifestyle changes with no relief. I was waved off, laughed at, told “welcome to womanhood.” I thought it must be all in my head, telling myself I needed to be tougher.
I was ultimately diagnosed with stage IV endometriosis. My surgery included an appendectomy and bilateral ovarian cystectomies to address my endometriosis-filled cysts inside my ovaries. I had multi organ involvement, nearly fusing my pelvic organs/structure in place with scar tissue and adhesions. Of the 22 specimens excised, all were confirmed endometriosis.”
Schmelzel went on to thank her doctors and spread awareness for the disease that affects 1 in 10 women.
Schmelzel (32) was in a bit of a career renaissance over the last two seasons. She had 10 top-10 finishes between 2024 and 2025, which included her first Solheim Cup appearance. She has not yet announced a time table for her return to the LPGA Tour.
