The bit of momentum Korda picked up in her second round at the Meijer LPGA Classic was enough to propel her to a solid -3 opening round at the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA.
The 2021 winner of this event was looking to shake off the rust of her last two appearances, where she missed the first two cuts of her season. She was in the form of a player who is a dominant No. 1 in the world Thursday.
Korda was the only player to reach -3 for the day, and it could have been better if not for some untimely three putts. Particularly on the par 4 fourth hole, Korda’s 13th of the day, where she made a double bogey. Prior to that, she had gotten her score down to -4.
Korda made six birdies, including three in a row from 13-15. She hit nine fairways and just nine greens, but she made up for her missed GIRs by having only 25 putts.
Korda is looking for her third-career major and second this season. This would also be her 15th career victory and would surely lock up a player of the year win (if it isn’t locked up already).
She’ll be in the Peacock broadcast tomorrow, starting at 4:00 est.
