After one round at Champions Retreat Golf Club, Colombian María José Marin leads the way at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
With the first two rounds, before the cut, being played at Champions Retreat, Marin is in good shape to make it to Augusta on Saturday after firing a -7 65 with no bogeys on the card. She raced out to a quick start with birdies on the first two holes, then did most of her damage around the turn with birdies on eight, nine and 12.
Marin is a superstar of the college game at Arkansas, winning the 2025 Division I individual championship in 2025 along with SEC Player of the Year. She is ranked No. 7 in the Women’s Amateur Golf Rankings.
Soomin Oh, ranked No. 10 in the WAGR, is also tied for the lead. The South Korean made five birdies on the front nine and two on the back, and like Marin made no bogeys.
Perhaps the biggest name in the event, Asterisk Talley, had a big day herself coming off a strong finish at the Ford Championship last week. Talley shot -6 66 with four birdies and an eagle on 18.
The second round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur is now underway, where the field will be cut to the top 30 and ties.
