Three-time major champion In Gee Chun currently sits in second place after the morning wave of the JM Eagle LA Championship, posting a -7 65.
Despite a tough start, with a bogey on hole 11, her second of the day, Chun rallied back posting her best round on tour in a long time. She didn’t have another over par score on the card and made eight birdies, including five on her second nine.
Chun hit nine fairways and 16 greens at El Caballero Golf Club, but was solid with her putter as well, taking 28 strokes with the flat stick. Chun finished No. 125 in strokes gained approach in 2024, so her shots coming into the green are much improved this week.
The 30-year-old from Korea has had a tough few years after her win at the 2022 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, which was her last win. She finished runner-up in the AIG Women’s Open that year as well but only has one top-10 finish since then, in August 2023. Chun has fallen all the way to No. 249 in the Rolex Rankings and this is just her sixth round in the 60s since the beginning of 2024.
She still has three rounds, but for the moment, it looks like Chun has figured out something in her game.
