The Evian Championship kicks off this weekend, the fourth major championship of the year and the newest event to be branded a major on the LPGA Tour Schedule.
The Amundi Evian Championship was established in 1994 as a standard Ladies European Tour event, before becoming a co-sanctioned event between the LPGA Tour and the LET in 2000. Winners of the event in its prior forms include LPGA Tour legends Annika Sörenstam, Karrie Webb, Juli Inkster, Laura Davies and Inbee Park.
The Evian Championship became a major in 2013, and has a stacked field of past champions. Despite sometimes being considered unpredictable and at times punishing of good shots, no major has more consistently been won by the big stars of the tour. The winners in the major era are: Suzann Pettersen, Hyo Joo Kim, Lydia Ko, In Gee Chun, Anna Nordqvist, Angela Stanford, Jin Young Ko, Minjee Lee, Brooke Henderson and Celine Boutier.
The Evian Championship is played at Evian Resort Golf Club in Eastern France on the border of Switzerland, and is located right on Lake Geneva. It is known for dramatic elevation changes and beautiful scenery.
In 2023, France native Celine Boutier won the Evian Championship, becoming the first French player, man or woman, to win a major championship in their home country.
Early Thursday morning, the Evian Championship kicks off. Follow Fore-All.com for coverage throughout the week.
