The time has come once again for the LPGA Tour to return to the United States for a week after over a month in Europe. The Tour heads back to the West Coast for The Standard Portland Classic, one of the most historic events on the schedule. Here are some of the odds to target, and some of the odds to be skeptical of:
Odds to Target:
Hannah Green (+2800) – While Green has certainly slowed down since her red-hot start to begin the season, there were some encouraging signs in Europe. She made the cut both in Scotland and at the AIG Women’s Open to steady out her game. Now, she returns to a place she has played well in the past. Green has to be disappointed with a major season that had so much potential end up so disappointing, but I think a rebound is due in Portland.
Hye Jin Choi (+2800) – I’m often not a fan of odds for first time winners, I think I have had Choi in the odds to be skeptical of more than anyone else, but I think she should be optimistic this week. The field is manageable and her odds, while relatively high, aren’t anything to be scared off from. She played okay in Europe, with missed cuts at both majors, but she had a good result in Scotland that should give some belief in positive form.
Andrea Lee (+4500) – Andrea Lee so often plays well in the back half of the season, and that turn around still hasn’t come for a player trying to hold on to an automatic qualifying spot at the Solheim Cup. Lee’s won win came on this course and it is a design and layout that should fit her game well. At these odds, it is hard to imagine much better value for a player just waiting for some good results.
Odds to be Skeptical of:
Ruoning Yin (+1600) – Yin is a victim of odds just not being too favorable here. She got off to such a blazing start to the year and seems to be still riding those results to being the fourth best odds in the field. She hasn’t played like it recently though, with some struggles on the European swing.
Esther Henseleit (+2800) – I actually don’t mind Henseleit as a player to contend this weekend after a couple great performances in Europe. Henseleit should have about as much momentum as anyone looking for her first career win. I would just caution against the reactionary betting, which is easy to do with a player who looks so poised to breakthrough right now.
Jin Hee Im (+2200) – There actually aren’t a lot of players with bad odds this week, that is the result of a fairly middle of the road field strength. Im is kind of here by default because nobody else fits the bill. She is showing good form, with a couple top-20 finishes in a row, but there are much better odds out there this week.
