It is finally here, the biggest event in women’s golf, The Solheim Cup. After two long years, the United States and Europe will face off again. For the United States, it is a chance to win on the road for the first time since 2015. For the Europeans, it is a chance to defend home soil and get revenge for 2024.
Here are some of the odds I love and some of the odds I am skeptical of this week:
Odds I Love:
Lauren Coughlin – Lead Point Scorer United States (+650) and Lead Overall Point Scorer (+1300) – Lauren Coughlin is third in betting odds to be the leading point scorer for the Americans and and +650 is very favorable considering the odds given to Nelly Korda (+350) and many of the Europeans. Coughlin was fantastic in 2024, going 3-0-1, and is one of the more likely Americans to play every session.
Leona Maguire – Top European Wildcard Points Scorer (+230) – Maguire is grouped in the “wildcard points scorer” category, which puts her alongside Julia López Ramirez, Mimi Rhodes and Nastasia Nadaud. Even within that group, she isn’t the odds on favorite to lead in points, Nastasia Nadaud is at +105. Of these four it would feel like a shock if Maguire didn’t lead this group.
Carlota Ciganda – Lead Overall Points Scorer (+1900) – Carlota Ciganda is far from the most consistent player in the Solheim Cup over her many appearances, but she does have two undefeated showings. I wouldn’t feel overly confident in Ciganda, but considering her odds, I think this is a solid bet to make.
Odds I am Skeptical of:
Nastasia Nadaud – Top European Wildcard Points Scorer (+105) – This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Nadaud is a rookie on the team and hasn’t really shown the type of form that would justify having her as the easy favorite to win this category. Outside of Maguire, I think López Ramirez, Rhodes and Nadaud are all about even, but Nadaud is being given a lot of benefit here.
Jennifer Kupcho – Lead Point Scorer United States (+650) – I am a bit more bullish on Kupcho than her past results would indicate, and I do think she’ll have a much better showing than she did in 2023 and 2024. That being said, she is tied here with Coughlin and Allisen Corpuz, both players that should inspire a lot of confidence in bettors. Go more for one of those or even a Auston Kim at +1300.
Either team to win – I think these teams are evenly matched enough, and the oddsmakers do as well, that I do not think it is particularly worth it to get money on a final result. Individual records and session-to-session results yield much better value.
