The Solheim Cup teams are all set with the finalization of the American team Monday. Over the next two weeks leading into the competition, we will rank all 24 players in the Solheim Cup for both teams, continuing with Nanna Koerstz Madsen
If you were to ask me for a list of the most underrated players on the LPGA Tour, it wouldn’t take too long before Nanna Koerstz Madsen came up. Koerstz Madsen isn’t always the most consistent player, both week-to-week but also day-to-day and hole-to-hole. In this format though, she has some upside.
Koerstz Madsen was a true last minute qualifier. Esther Henseleit’s incredible made putt on the 18th hole the last week of qualifying actually moved Koerstz Madsen into position. She likely would have been an easy captain’s selection anyway, but it had to feel good to qualify.
This will be Koerstz Madsen’s second time playing for the European Solheim Cup team, her first on European soil. She previously made an appearance in 2021, where she gave an okay 1-1-1 performance. Nothing discouraging, but not necessarily anything encouraging either.
Predictably, Koerstz Madsen played only in fourtball, where she and Madelene Sagström were involved in a controversial match with Nelly Korda and Ally Ewing. She did see a win with Carlota Ciganda though, which is a pairing that makes a lot of sense to see once again.
Koerstz Madsen is right on the bubble for the CME Tour Championship, having made 11/17 cuts with two top-10 finishes. While she does have those two top-10 finishes, they did both come early in the season. She had a tough few events on the European swing, but showed better form in Canada last week. She also played well against a solid field at Meijer, where she had a top 20.
Koerstz Madsen is a well rounded player, and should be one of the stronger players on the green for the Europeans. The biggest question mark with Koerstz Madsen is between the ears, where she can be an emotional player, and not always in a good way. On the flip side, that fiery nature can be a big boost in an event like the Solheim Cup.
Of all the players on Europe, I think she is one of the more likely to play just three rounds. I think we see her in four ball and singles of course, and in that way, 1.5 points would be a good turnout for her. If she can get more than that, it adds a lot of depth to this young European squad.
