Haeran Ryu, the 25-year-old from Korea, won her second consecutive major at the Amundi Evian Championship, her fifth LPGA Tour victory overall.
Ryu came into the day three strokes clear of Aki Iwai and seven strokes ahead of two-time major champion Brooke Henderson. Ryu set a single-round major championship record with a 60 on Saturday to get into pole position.
For much of Sunday’s round, Ryu struggled to get much of anything going, especially with her putter. Ryu made seven pars to begin the round, a far cry from her explosive day Saturday.
Brooke Henderson started to really make a move toward the end of the front nine. After a birdie on the first hole, she had five pars before an eagle on the par 5 seventh. She immediately followed that up with a hole-in-one on the eighth hole, which accounted for her fifth eagle of the week.
For the first time this week, Ryu looked rattled, missing a short putt on the eighth to bring Henderson within one stroke.
This came at the same time Aki Iwai started to make her move with birdies on nine, 13 and 14. Henderson added birdies on 15 and 16 to force a three-way tie heading into 17 at -18.
On 17, Ryu and Iwai both made par, but Henderson missed a short putt that really never had a chance of going in, putting her one behind the other two.
Of course, because the Evian always brings out the best drama, Henderson was the only one who hit the fairway on 18 and thus, was the only one who could go for the green in two on the par 5. Henderson knocked a brilliant shot into the green, giving herself the shortest putt of the group, and for eagle as opposed to birdie for the others.
While Iwai missed her putt, Ryu finally got something to go for her first birdie in a round where she had 33 putts. Henderson came in clutch too though, making her eagle to force a playoff.
There was a role reversal in the playoff, as Henderson was forced to lay up while Ryu had a green light. Ryu safely two putted for birdie, which was enough to grab the victory. This was her second win in a row after the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine and her second major championship.
This win now puts Ryu in second for Player of the Year, CME Standings and the Annika Major Award, all behind Nelly Korda. Through four majors, Ryu and Korda are the only players to have won in 2026.
