Jing Yan, a 30-year-old veteran from China, is in position to contend for her first LPGA Tour title at the Meijer LPGA Classic, taking a one-stroke lead into the weekend in Michigan.
Yan came into the day at -4 after a bit of a chaotic first round that included six birdies and two bogeys, with just two pars on the front nine. It was a bit of a cleaner scorecard, as she had six birdies with no dropped shots.
Yan has been strong in particular on her approach shots, as she has missed just four greens all week, two each day. She was a bit more consistent off the tee Friday also, hitting 10/13 fairways.
Yan has been on the LPGA Tour since 2015, keeping status consistently but not getting into contention much. Across her career, she has just seven top-10 finishes, but has had some strong moments this year already with a couple of top-15s in Arizona and Los Angeles.
Chasing her down is Lottie Woad, looking for her third LPGA Tour win and second of the season. She sits just one back as well as Cassie Porter, who is also fighting for her first win on the Tour.
The third round of the Meijer LPGA Classic will continue Saturday with a crowded leaderboard of chasers.
