Lauren Nguyen, a former college superstar in her first season on the Epson Tour, won for the first time in her professional career Sunday at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship.
Played in Marshall, Michigan, part of the important Michigan swing of the Epson Tour, Nguyen ran away from the field, winning by three strokes over runner up Jenny Coleman, shooting a three-round -12.
Nguyen’s ball striking was strong throughout the weekend, hitting 24/28 fairways throughout the first two rounds and 31/36 greens. Throughout those first two rounds she made 11 birdies with just one dropped shot.
Nguyen struggled a bit more in the third and final round, making two bogeys and a double, but still had six birdies to overcome those dropped shots.
Nguyen was a standout at Northwestern, leading the team to a Division I National Championship in 2025, an upset victory over the stacked Stanford Cardinal team. Nguyen is an Epson Tour rookie and currently ranks No. 4 in the Race for the Card Standings.
Amari Avery is still at the top of the Race for the Card standings, but about halfway through the season, there is still so much golf to be played. For now, Nguyen looks like she is in good position to be fighting for her LPGA Tour card come the end of the year.
