At the PIF Saudi Ladies International, two-time United States Solheim Cup star Alison Lee has been pretty impressive, despite not having her clubs for the first couple of rounds.
Lee’s clubs were stuck in Amsterdam because of travel issues, causing her to use a mixture of rentals, borrowed clubs and a newly purchased putter. She played well with that set, keeping herself within striking distance with an opening round 70 and second round 68.
Lee got her regular clubs back for Friday’s third round, and went on an absolute tear. Lee made four birdies on the front nine, including her first two holes, before hitting a gorgeous shot in from long distance on hole 10 for an eagle to get to -6 thru 10 on the day.
Lee slowed a bit from there. She did make another birdie on 12 before dropping her lone shot of the day on the par 4 13.
On the par 3 17th hole, Lee got that shot back in spectacular fashion. Lee nearly made an ace on the hole, cozying it up to about a foot away from the cup, tapping it in for an easy birdie.
This is only Lee’s sixth event back in professional golf after having her first child in 2025. While Lee is considered by many to be the best player without a win on the LPGA Tour, she has found some success on the Ladies European Tour with two wins in Aramco Series events, including in Riyadh in 2023.
With second round leader Mimi Rhodes struggling a bit in her third round, Lee currently sits just two strokes back of Hye-Jin Choi, who has three holes left to play at the time of publishing.
