Lexi Thompson, who lost in a playoff to Lilia Vu at this event in 2024, is at -7 through two rounds in Grand Rapids at the Meijer LPGA Classic.
Thompson shot -3 69 in the afternoon on Friday after shooting -4 Thursday. Thompson is playing pretty well-rounded, hitting some great approach shots and looking very solid on the greens, needing just 59 putts over these first two days. When Thompson putts well, she is dangerous.
Thompson is looking for her 12th win on the LPGA Tour but her first since June 2019, when she beat Jeongeun Lee6 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. This is generally a good time of year for Thompson, where she found a lot of momentum in 2024.
At the top of the leaderboard are Carlota Ciganda, Celine Boutier and Hye Jin Choi. Ciganda and Boutier would continue the trend of winners at this event who have either won a major or played in a Solheim Cup.
Relative to the field quality, the leaderboard is deep, with Nanna Koerstz-Madsen, Bronte Law, Minjee Lee, Grace Kim and Madelene Sagström among those within striking distance.
